Located in West Wendover, Nevada, Stateline Casino was originally a hotel. In addition to the hotel, it had a casino. The hotel and the casino have since been demolished. But the name of the casino remains.
History
Located on the southeastern shore of Lake Tahoe in Douglas County, Nevada, Stateline is bordered by Nevada on the south, Utah on the west, and California on the north. Several casinos and resorts are in the area, and visitors often choose to stay at one of these properties.
The History of Stateline Casino begins with William “Bill” Smith, who opened a service station on the Utah-Nevada border in 1926. After gambling became legal in Nevada in 1931, Smith expanded his service station and began building a casino. Initially, the casino was just a small garage with 10 slot machines. It soon grew into the largest gaming license in Nevada, and was known as the Stateline Casino.
During World War II, the Stateline Hotel was a major player in the town’s tourism. After Smith’s death in 1958, his wife Anna inherited the property and continued running the Stateline.
